At Tholkappiyar Tamil School, a proud initiative of Tamil Sangam Hampton Roads, we follow the comprehensive curriculum and textbooks provided by the American Tamil Academy (ATA). This ensures our students receive structured, age-appropriate Tamil language education that aligns with internationally recognized standards. Each course is designed to nurture language skills, cultural awareness, and a strong foundation in Tamil literacy, guided by ATA’s proven academic framework.
Minimum age: 10 years
The student should have completed Tamil Proficiency Level 6, or should already possess the following skills:
Ability to read and comprehend sentences
Ability to write simple sentences independently
Grammatical knowledge, including:
Singular and plural forms
Verbs and nouns
Pronouns
Tense forms
Types of verbs
The eight types of grammatical case suffixes
Basic conversation skills in Tamil
Read sentences clearly and fluently with proper pronunciation and without errors
Understand and write sentences correctly
Translate between Tamil and English
Read lessons related to culture and literature and express thoughts clearly
Compare sentences, ideas, words, and grammatical structures in both Tamil and English
Study dialogue-based lessons in spoken Tamil and comprehend them
Write simple essays and letters
Read stories, understand their meaning, and complete the missing parts
To be taught through textbooks and practice materials:
Verb classes
Case suffixes (declensions)
Implied verbs/nouns (compound forms)
Similes and metaphors
Postpositions
Continuous/progressive verbs
Auxiliary verbs
Direct and indirect speech
Derivative and primitive words
Idioms and colloquial expressions
Natural and modified word compounds (morphological blending)
Students will:
Listen to audio clips
Answer the questions asked in the clips
Record their responses and submit them in audio format for review

அ.த.க நிலை 6 முடித்திருக்க வேண்டும் அல்லது ஏற்கனவே வாக்கியங்கள் படித்து புரிந்து கொள்ளுதல்; சுயமாக எளிய வாக்கியங்களை எழுதுதல், இலக்கண அறிவு (ஒருமை, பன்மை, வினைச்சொல், பெயர்ச்சொல், சுட்டுப்பெயர், கால நிலைகள், வினை வகைகள், மற்றும் எட்டு வகையான வேற்றுமை உருபுகள் அறிதல்) போன்ற திறன்கள் பெற்றிருத்தல். மேலும் தமிழில் அடிப்படை உரையாடல் திறன் பெற்றிருக்க வேண்டும்.

வாக்கியங்களைத் தெளிந்த உச்சரிப்போடு பிழையின்றி படித்தல், புரிந்து கொள்ளுதல், எழுதுதல்.
மொழி மாற்றம் செய்தல்; பண்பாடு மற்றும் இலக்கியம் சார்ந்த பாடங்கள் படித்து தெளிவுபட கருத்துக்களை வெளிப்படுத்தல்.
வாக்கியங்கள், கருத்துக்கள், வார்த்தைகள் மற்றும் இலக்கணத்தை ஆங்கில மொழியோடு ஒப்பிட்டுப் பயிலுதல்.
பேச்சுத் தமிழில் அமைந்திருக்கும் உரையாடல் பாடங்களை பயின்று பொருளறிதல்.
எளிமையான கட்டுரை, கடிதம் எழுதுதல்.
கதையைப் படித்து புரிந்துக் கொண்டு விடுபட்ட பகுதியை நிறைவு செய்தல்.

உரையாடல்:
மாணவர்களுக்கு அளிக்கப்படும் ஒலிக்கோப்பினைக் கேட்டு அதில் கேட்கப்பட்டிருக்கும்
கேள்விகளுக்கு மாணவர்கள் ஒலி வடிவில் தங்கள் விடையை பதிவு செய்து ஒலிக்கோப்பாக அனுப்பி வைத்தல்.
