School Policies
Tholkappiyar Tamil School (a program under Tamil Sangam Hampton Roads, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit) is committed to providing a respectful, nurturing, and academically sound environment. The following policies ensure that all students, parents, and staff contribute to a productive and safe learning community.
1. Attendance Policy
Regular attendance is mandatory. Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes.
If a student must miss class, parents must inform the school in advance.
Repeated absences may impact promotion to the next level.
2. Code of Conduct
Students are expected to be respectful toward peers, teachers, and school property.
Disruptive behavior, bullying, or disrespectful language will not be tolerated.
Parents are encouraged to model and support positive behavior and cultural values at home.
3. Academic Integrity
Students are expected to complete assignments and assessments honestly.
Plagiarism or misuse of assistance during evaluations will result in review by the school coordinator.
4. Homework and Evaluations
Homework will be given weekly and is essential for reinforcing classroom learning.
Periodic assessments will be conducted in alignment with ATA curriculum standards.
Report cards and progress feedback will be shared at the end of each term.
5. Promotion and Graduation
Students are promoted based on participation, completion of assignments, assessment results, and attendance.
Graduating students may be eligible for recognition or volunteer opportunities within the Tamil Sangam community.
6. Parent Involvement
We encourage parents to actively participate in their child’s language journey.
Parent-teacher meetings are scheduled every term.
Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year, including during cultural events.
7. Health and Safety
Students showing symptoms of illness should stay home.
Emergency contacts must be kept up to date with the school administration.
Any allergies or medical conditions should be disclosed during enrollment.
8. Media and Privacy
Tholkappiyar Tamil School may take photos or videos during events for internal use and promotional materials.
If you do not wish your child’s image to be used, please submit a written opt-out request at the time of enrollment.
9. Fees and Refunds
Tuition fees must be paid in full by the announced deadline.
Fees are non-refundable unless the school cancels the program or under exceptional circumstances approved by the Board.
10. Zero Tolerance Policy
The school reserves the right to dismiss a student or parent from the program for violations of the above policies that disrupt the learning environment or compromise the safety and well-being of others.
